SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Berry College Track and Field teams closed their first of two indoor meets at Sewanee on Saturday night. With representatives in only the field and sprint events, the meet was a smaller one for the team.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Quincy Watford winning the HJ in a new PR of 1.90m (indoor school record for NCAA DIII era) and running 6.63 in the 55m finishing 7th. Time is also a new indoor school record. Quincy hasn't been 100% yet still came out and had a strong meet in both of his events.
- Chris Lilly also jumped 1.90m and finished in 2nd in HJ and finished 6th in the Long Jump
- Gino Fabrizio took 3rd and 5th in the Shot Put and WT respectively. His mark in the WT breaks his own school record in the event.
- Rory Fleming finished 3rd in the Men's 55 Hurdles after running a 8.54 in the prelims which is a new indoor school record
- Genesis Leggett winning both the Women's Shot Put and Weight Throw. Genesis competed well despite her marks being a little below her last meet. Carson Butler took 2nd in the WT and 5th in the Shot Put.
- Elizabeth LaSelva took 2nd in the Women's PV
- Kelley DeLacey finished 5th in the finals of the Women's 55 Hurdles with a mark that set's our indoor school record and finished 6th in the Pole Vault.
WHAT THEY SAID:
“I was really pleased with and proud of the way the team competed today. We started off very strong in the field events and had a solid meet all around with most people on the team setting lifetime or indoor PR's. The Men finished 3rd and Women 4th which is pretty good for not even having half the team compete and no one in the distance events who had the weekend off. This was a good response to our last meet where we were pretty flat. We have one more indoor meet back up at Sewanee next week before getting ready for the outdoor season in March.”—Head Coach Luke Syverson
UP NEXT:
The Track and Field teams have one last indoor meet at Sewanee on the 18th of February before opening their outdoor season at the Berry Icebreaker Duals on March 4th at Valhalla Stadium.
