Men's Track & Field is Fifth at SAAs

BIRMINGHAM -- After day one of competition at the SAA Championships, the Berry College Men's Track and Field team is sitting in fifth place with seven events scored.

Notable performances from Friday included Eli Sumner's pole vault title, senior Kyle Harris' runner-up finish in the 3000m steeplechase (garnering him all-conference honors), and Gino Fabrizio's fourth place finish in the Shot Put with a new school record of 13.95m

"Although we are starting off stronger and have more points than we ever have, I think we fell flat in a couple of areas and didn't capitalize on our potential," said Head Coach Luke Syverson. "We were not as strong in a couple of events as we should have been, but hopefully the guys pick things up and get after it tomorrow to recoup things. We are only six points behind Hendrix, and we want to finish in the top four.

Rory Fleming advanced to the finals in both of his hurdle races, and we should have good performances in the 800m and 1500m. Kyle Benard had a strong PR to finish in seventh in the Javelin to close out his collegiate career. Ethan Caldwell finished sixth in the Pole Vault and Quincy Watford took sixth in the Long Jump to add to our team points."

Day two starts at 9 a.m. EDT on Saturday with the Men's Discus and High Jump.
