ROME, Ga. —The Berry College Track & Field team continues the season this weekend at two indoor meets. The distance and sprint teams will be representing Berry at Eastern Tennessee State University, while the field team will be at Sewanee.
"Similar to our last meet, we will be looking for a sense of how we are coming along in preparation for our outdoor season," said Head Coach Luke Syverson. "Although we are holding some people out of competition for various reasons, this will be a good chance to see our potential for our first home meet. We are splitting the team up for the first time to ensure that all of our athletes get competition that will be beneficial to them. ETSU has an oversized indoor track, which will be great for our distance team to run solid times. The competition there is beneficial to the sprinting team, as well as the distance team. Sewanee will be a good meet for the field team, as all of our athletes will have a good chance to set some marks at that meet."
The ETSU meet will take place Friday and Saturday, February 5-6, while the Sewanee meet will be on Saturday.
"I'm excited to see some of the athletes who didn't compete last meet out wearing Berry colors this weekend," said Coach Syverson. "In the men's distance, I'm interested to see how Sam Berendsen performs in the Mile, while Kyle Harris will be in the 3000m and Will Knowlton competes in the 800m. Rachel Dorris in the women's distance will be entered in the Mile, while freshmen Violet Keys and Alexa Bilsky will be competing in their first collegiate track race. It will also be exciting to see Eli Sumner compete in his first collegiate meet in the pole vault. He's been looking great in practice, and I think his first competition should go smoothly."
