Men's Basketball Holds Off Generals 68-65

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Berry men's basketball team fought off a pesky Washington & Lee squad to improve to 3-1 on the year, their best start since the 2013-14 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Vikings led 38-34 at the end of the first half.
  • The Vikings shot 50.0% to the Generals 40.0%.
  • The Vikings bested Washington & Lee on the boards (36-30).

BERRY STATISTICAL STANDOUTS:

  • Tanner Spalding: 15 points, 7-11 FG, 1-1 FT, 7 rebounds
  • McCarty Forte: 13 points, 5-7 FG, 3-5 3FG, 1 rebound
  • Caleb Johnson: 11 points, 2-6 FG, 4 rebounds, 7-11 FT, 2 assists

WASHINGTON & LEE STATISTICAL STANDOUTS:

  • Clayton Murtha: 15 points, 4-8 FG, 7-10 FT, 9 rebounds, 1 assist
  • Andy Kleinlein: 13 points, 4-11 FG, 3-7 3FG, 2-2 FT, 3 rebounds, 5 assists
  • Devin Kearns: 12 points, 4-8 FG, 2-4 3FG, 2-2 FT, 2 rebounds, 1 assist

NOTABLES:

  • Berry scored 32 points from the bench.
  • The Vikings earned 13 points off of turnovers and dominated the paint, scoring 36 points.
