MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Berry College men's soccer team is set to face both SAA contenders Hendrix and Rhodes at home this weekend. The Vikings will take on the Hendrix Warriors in their first match-up on Friday, followed by a second game against the Rhodes Lynx on Sunday.
Outlook – Berry
With four wins in their first five matches, the Berry College men's soccer team is now 6-5 on the year, as well as 1-1 in the SAA. The Vikings have averaged 1.36 goals-per-game, with 15 goals in just 11 contests this season.
Conference standout, Steven Moore, leads Berry with five tallies on the year, ranking second and third in the SAA in both goals and points (11), respectively, as well first in shots (33). Daniel Shaw remains a threat on offensive for the Vikings as well, scoring three goals and passing two assists on the season.
Goalkeeper Jake Doiron also leads the conference in nearly every defensive category, including save percentage (.885), goals against (3) and goals-against average (0.55).
Berry currently sits as one of four teams in the conference with a 1-1 record. The Vikings are looking to edge out the other three contenders with home wins over Rhodes and Hendrix this weekend.
Outlook – Hendrix
The Warriors sit at 2-8 on the season, as well as 0-2 in the SAA after falling to top-ranked Millsaps and Birmingham-Southern College.
While the Warriors average 1.30 goals per game, their opponents average 2.50.
Mohammad Ali leads Hendrix's offense with three goals and 14 shots on the season. Both Gordon Perrin and Seth Jordan have each tallied twice for the Warriors as well.
Nathan Myers has started eight of the Warriors' 10 games in goal, adding 54 saves on the year, while allowing 18 goals.
Outlook – Rhodes
The Lynx are one of the four teams in the SAA with a 1-1 record, vying for a jump up the ladder following this weekend's play. Overall, Rhodes sits at 4-5-1 on the season, dropping three of their four matches by two or less goals.
The Lynx are led by the top two scoring threats in the SAA: William Mitchell and Mark Robinson. Mitchell leads the SAA with six goals and one assist on the year. He is also second in points, with 13. Robinson sits at second in conference scoring with 5 goals and 4 assists. He tops the leaderboard in points (14) and assists (4) as well.
While the Lynx do average two goals per game, their opponents average 2.20, as well as 12.5 shots and 54 corner kicks.
