Viking Women's Basketball Defeated by BSC

ROME, Ga. -- Zarriah Pierce tied for the game's high point honors with 13, but Berry College lost to Birmingham-Southern, 55-44, on Friday night.

The Vikings dropped to 7-6 and 1-1 in Southern Athletic Association play. The Panthers moved to 11-0 and 2-0 in the SAA.

Pierce, Berry's lone double digit scorer, made three field goals and converted 6-of-8 free throws for the Vikes. Valerie McLure collected a game-best seven rebounds and had five assists for the home club.

Berry held a 21-19 edge at halftime. The Vikings had a 21-13 lead in rebounds at the break and made 5-of-6 free throws to BSC's 1-for-2.

The Panthers outscored BC 17-9 in the third period and 19-16 in the final quarter.

For the game, Berry had the edge in rebounds, 36-30. BC, however, committed 25 turnovers to BSC's 13. The Vikings shot 35-percent (16-46) to the Panthers' 36-percent (20-56).

Jasmyn Bates tallied 13 points and Jameice Holmes contributed 12 for the visitors.

The Vikings host Millsaps College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
