Mount Berry, Ga. — Led by Owen Jacobs' 20 point and 12 rebound effort, the Berry College men's basketball team won at home, 84-71, on Monday night.
The Vikings moved its record to 6-8. Rust fell to 4-13. With the win, the Vikings swept the home and home series with the Bearcats.
Jacobs had a double-double, made 7-of-12 shots and converted all six of his free throws. Blake Scherrman and Caleb Johnson added 15 points and 14 points respectively.
Berry led Rust at halftime. 39-36. For the game, BC shot 45-percent (28-of-62) to RC's 40-percent (26-62). The Vikings' bench outscored Rust College bench (21-2) and the Vikings out rebounded the Bearcats (42-39).
Carlos Holmes was the leading scorer for Rust College with 21 points. O'Darius Lowe added 19 points and 10 rebounds for the visitors.
"This game was key to keeping us into our season rhythm; we didn't want to have six days between Oglethorpe on Saturday and Hendrix this Saturday," said Berry Head Coach Jeff Rogers. "Hendrix and Rhodes will be tough games, and we'll need to be prepared. We found some things we need to work on in practice this week."
Berry College's next matchup is Friday night away at Hendrix. Tip-off is at 9 p.m.
