Men's Basketball Edged in Overtime in Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Owen Jacobs came off the bench to record a double-double, but Berry College lost to Eastern Connecticut State University, 66-60 in overtime, on Sunday in the Daytona Shootout.

Jacobs had 11 points and grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds in the contest. Freshman Blake Scherrman contributed a team best 13 points for the Vikings. Caleb Johnson added 11 points in the defeat.

Berry held a 28-25 lead at halftime. The Vikes led by as many as seven points in the first half. The game was tied nine times and had four lead changes.

The Vikings trailed by as many as 10 points in the second half. BC, however, rallied and Johnson's free throw with four seconds remaining in regulation tied the score at 55 and forced extra time.

The Warriors outscored the Vikings 11-5 in the overtime period.

Defense prevailed in the contest as ECSU shot 32-percent (19-of-59) to BC's 27-percent (18-of-67). The Vikings trailed in rebounds, 59-57.

Tarchee Brown netted a game-best 16 points for ECSU (8-3). He was 11-of-12 from the free throw line and had six rebounds. 

Berry College dropped to 2-6 on the season and plays Lynchburg College on Monday in the Daytona Shootout.
