Men's Basketball: Hawks Edged Vikes, 73-71

ROME, Ga. -- Blake Scherrman grabbed the final rebound, but missed a buzzer-beater jump shot as the Berry College men's basketball team fell to Huntingdon College, 73-71, on Saturday.

The Hawks moved to 2-1 on the season. Berry fell to 0-3.

With four seconds on the clock, Scherrman had his shot blocked. He grabbed the rebound and his five footer was off as the final horn sounded.

Scherrman scored 19 points leading Berry's offense. Scherrman collected seven rebounds, was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line and added three three-pointers for the Vikes.

Owen Jacobs and Nick Marder each added double-digit points in the loss as well.

Jacobs scored 14 points, shooting 6-of-12 from the field and sinking one three-point shot.

Marder added 13 points for the BC offense, earning all 13 points (13-18) at the free throw line.

Berry led at the half 48-37, but a second half run by Huntingdon gave them a 56-55 lead with a little less than nine and a half minutes left in the game.

For Huntingdon, R. J. Jones led the offense, scoring 15 points in the victory. Jones was 5-of-20 from the field, sank two three-pointers and was 2-for-2 from the free throw line.

Berry led the game in rebounds (44-42), but Huntingdon led in assists (18-11) and had 14 turnovers to Berry's 16.

Berry will take on Covenant College in their next game on Tuesday Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Cage Center.
