ROME, Ga. - - Enrique Garcia scored in overtime as the Berry College men's soccer team defeated Covenant College, 2-1, on Monday afternoon.
The win improved the Vikes to 3-4-2. The loss dropped the visiting Scots to 3-6-1.
Covenant looked to take the game with two shots on goal, as well as a corner kick, in the first three extra minutes of extra time.
Garcia--playing his first game of the year--then found the back of the net on a short blast following a pass from Connor Garrett.
Berry's first goal of the game came from Ben Ebersole in the thirty-fifth minute. Scoring off an assist from Daniel Shaw. Ebersole put the Vikes ahead, 1-0, going into halftime.
The Scots scored their lone goal of the game with less than six regulation minutes left. Isaac Johnson tallied for Covenant, evening the score 1-1. On the play, Zachary Wroblewski attempted to clear the ball, but Johnson jumped in the way and he deflected the ball back across the goal line.
BC had the edge in shots (28-13), while the Scots led the game in corner kicks (8-7).
Wroblewski earned the win in goal for Berry, collecting seven saves.
The Vikings will host Millsaps College in their next SAA match-up on Friday, October 9. Game start is slated for 1 p.m at Ford Field.
