Berry holds off Roanoke, 2-1

ROME, Ga. – Berry College scored two goals in the first half and held off Roanoke, 2-1, at Ford Field on Saturday.

Berry advanced to 4-1 and Roanoke fell to 4-1-1.

In the ninth minute, Alex Rotoloni scored the first goal unassisted. He finished into the top left corner.

A little more than 10 minutes later, Zak Wallingford tallied with an assist from Christian Fulbright.

The Maroons recorded their only goal in the first half scored by Cole Thornton assisted by Tyler Carbaugh.

In the first half the Vikings led in shots 10-4, but the Maroons outshot Berry in the second half, 14-8. Both clubs had 18 shots in the contest. The Vikings took all four of the game's corner kicks.

Jon Nelson recorded six saves for the Vikings and Cole Sinclair had four saves for the Maroons.

"We started very well today, were terrific for the first 35 minutes and deserved the 2-0 lead," said Vikings Head Coach Richrad Vardy. "Roanoke's goal, however, changed the momentum. But we again showed character in the second half as a strong team pushed us to the limit."

The Vikings host Emory on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ford Field.
