Men's furious rally comes up short at Toccoa Falls

TOCCOA, Ga. -- Berry College mounted a furious second-half rally, but lost at Toccoa Falls College, 85-78, on Tuesday evening.

Hunter Smoak scored a game-high 26 points for Berry (3-12). He was 9-25 from the field and made 7 of 15 3-point baskets--one short of a program record. Mac Whalen scored 15 points and four assists and freshman Douglas Cotter added a career-best ten points for BC.

Whalen hit a 3-pointer with 14 seconds left to reduce the margin to 83-78. Josh Barrett the made two free throws to give Toccoa Falls its final points.

The Eagles got off to a hot start and led 40-22 at halftime. Toccoa Falls led by as many as 25 points in the second half, but the visitors mounted a late comeback. 

The Vikings won the battle of the boards, 37-32. Owen Jacobs had a game-best 10 rebounds for BC. TFC shot 46-percent (27-59) to Berry's 38-percent (29-75). The teams combined for 57 turnovers with Berry committing 30. 

Cam Williams had 18 point to pace the Eagles, which had four players score in double-digits.

The Vikings return to Southern Athletic Association play when Sewanee visits the Cage Center on Friday night.
