Sixth-ranked OWU edged men's soccer, 2-1

Box Score

DELAWARE, Ohio – Sixth-ranked Ohio Wesleyan defeated Berry College, 2-1, in men's soccer action on Sunday. OWU improved to 7-0 and the Vikings fell to 2-4-1.

Berry took a 1-0 lead late in the first half.  The OWU defense broke up a Viking breakaway, with the visitors were awarded a corner kick after the play. The Ohio Wesleyan defense headed the ball away from the goal mouth, but the ball went to Matt Seib at the top of the box. Seib's shot found the back of the net with 3:55 remaining in the period.

Paolo Bucci and Colton Bloecher, however, scored second-half goals to lift the Bishops to the win.

Ohio Wesleyan evened the game six minutes into the second half when Bucci's 30-yard shot hit the right post and caromed into the goal. Bloecher gave the Bishops the lead in the 86th minute with a 25-yard shot just inside the left post.

"This was a solid performance against a very good Ohio Wesleyan team," said Head Coach Richard Vardy. "We were forced to defend for long periods and did so well.  This weekend, playing against this quality of opponent, has been good preparation for a run at the conference."

Colin Beemiller had two saves for Ohio Wesleyan.  Logan Hill finished with eight saves in the Viking goal. Vardy noted Hill's strong play in goal, including stopping a penalty kick.

Berry plays its third straight game against a ranked opponent at Emory next Saturday.
