Box Score

By Connor Garrett for BerryViings.com ROME, Ga. – Berry men's soccer kicked off the season with a 4-0 win against visiting Louisiana College. David Shaw had one goal and two assists to lead the Vikings.

Zak Wallingford scored the first goal off an assist by Kyle Fitting, giving the Vikings a 1-0 lead six minutes into the game. "It was a good cross, and the ball was bobbling around in the box so I took a touch and buried it in the net," said Wallingford. The Vikings held the same lead at halftime.

At the break Head Coach Richard Vardy made adjustments. Caleb Lucas and Christian Fulbrightstarted the second half and the Vikings intensity increased as the opposition wore down.

The final three goals were scored in a span of roughly five minutes between the fifty-fourth and the fifty-ninth minutes of the game. Josh Hughes, Shaw and Caleb Lucas each scored a goal to deflate Louisiana College.

"Our positioning really tightened up in the second half, and we stayed attentive and exploited their defense with our speed," said Shaw.

Goalkeeper Logan Hill recorded three saves and a shutout. Berry led in shots, 23-13, and had a 17-7 edge in the second half.

Travis Alexander had nine saves for the Wildcats (0-1). LC plays Piedmont at noon on Saturday at Berry.
