Box Score SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Mel McLean scored team-highs of 20 points and seven rebounds, but Berry College lost to Willamette (Ore.), 72-60, on Wednesday.
McLean was 8-17 from the field, made four 3-pointers and had three assists for the Vikings. Berry dropped to 4-5 for the season and Willamette improved to 2-7.
Emma Cook added 16 points on 7-11 shooting. The Bearcats, however, held BC leading scorer Chanlir Segarra to a season-low eight points.
Willamette led from start-to-finish and held a 40-23 edge at the break. For the game, the Bearcats shot 42 to 41-percent. Yet WC fired off 74 shots to Berry's 59.
WC's Katie Kalugin netted a game-best 30 points (13-25 shooting) for the Bearcats.
"This was a good experience for our seven freshmen and our upperclassmen," said BC Head Coach Stephanie Dunn. "We played good teams and learned the kind of lessons that should help us during the second half of the season."
The Vikings return to action on Dec. 30 when Wesleyan (Ga.) visits the Cage Center.
