Women's Basketball Season Preview

by Caitlin Crawford for Berryvikings.com

ROME, Ga. – The Berry women's basketball team has been working hard since day one to bring the 13 players, plus the new assistant coach, Brittany Graham, together as one. Graham was a part of last year's Emory staff that led the team to a 24-4 record.

The seven newcomers are making a statement during this preseason. "I am pretty impressed so far," said Head Coach Stephanie Dunn. "We recruited student-athletes who have been playing year-round. The style and terminology is present, so they are ready to handle whatever we throw at them."

Placing third in the conference last year, with a 13-14 record, the seven returners will have a big role in the upcoming season as well.

Junior Chanlir Segarra earned Southern Athletic Association first team honors as a sophomore point guard. She started all 27 games last year, averaged 17.7 points and played 35.9 minutes-per-game--both the most on the team.

Also back is senior Megan Walsh who received all conference honorable mention. She was a key defensive player who averaged 7.5 rebounds per game. The five other returners finished last year off strong. With years of experience under their belts, all seven are key players who will help lead the Vikings to a successful season.

The regular season opens on November 15th at 6 p.m., when Berry takes on Covenant at home, in the Berry College Classic. The Vikings face Agnes Scott the following day.
