ROME, Ga. – After falling behind by double digits in both halves, Berry's men's basketball won, 85-77, in double overtime against Huntingdon on Wednesday evening at the Cage Center.

Berry improved to 4-11 on the season and surpassed its win total from 2011-2012.  Huntingdon dropped to 5-11.

The first half saw Berry trail by as many as 16 points before cutting the deficit to five at halftime.  Huntingdon nailed 50 percent of its field goals in that span while Berry missed 11 out of 13 free throws.  Huntingdon capitalized on Berry's nine first-half turnovers, scoring 14 off them.

"That first ten minutes, we looked so out of sorts it was unbelievable," said Berry Head Coach Jeff Haarlow.  "The second ten minutes, we played with a lot more energy and got some easy buckets."

"Coach told us to keep fighting, to trust what our system does and to get stops on defense," said senior Cody Marsh.

In the second half, Huntingdon worked its way to another double-digit lead.  Berry rallied to narrow Huntingdon's lead to one point after a Jordan Teems' jumper at 1:52.  After a Huntingdon basket, Berry responded on a Lake Graham putback at 1:10.  Mac Whalen gave Berry the lead, 59-58, with a jumper at 41.5 seconds.  Hawk Ryan Petty tied the game, 59-59, with a free throw at 18.8 seconds.  After a full timeout by Huntingdon with less than two seconds on the clock, Jeremiah Thomas' halfcourt heave just rattled out, sending the game to overtime.

Berry scored the extra period's first four points, but Huntingdon notched its next five to take a 64-63 lead.  Berry's Jonathan Abrams scored on a driving layup at 1:33 to give the team a 65-64 advantage at 1:33.  Huntingdon's Terry Moorer responded with an under-the-basket layin to give the team a 66-65 edge.  Whalen knocked down the second of his two free throws to knot the game up, 66-66, with 56 seconds left.  On a later fast break, Whalen hit the deck as he went for a layup.  He swished his two free throws to put the team ahead, 68-66, with 33 seconds.  The Hawks responded with a Courtnee Edgar layup with 13.2 seconds to tie the game up, 68-68.  That would be the final basket of the first overtime.

Whalen drained a three-pointer at 2:06 in the second overtime to put Berry up, 72-70. Hunter Smoak drilled another from downtown and converted on the subsequent foul shot to complete a four-point play at 1:31.  All in all Berry rattled off 10 unanswered points to charge ahead, 78-70.  Huntingdon went on a 5-0 run to cut Berry's lead to three points, 78-75, with under a minute remaining.  Berry sealed the deal by scoring seven of the game's final nine points.

"It was big for us to get this win because we've had a couple of losses recently, and we wanted to turn over a new leaf," Marsh said.

Abrams led Berry with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 turnovers.  Whalen totaled 17 points, all of which came after the first half.  Graham had 12 points and nine rebounds while Teems came off the bench to add 11.

Petty notched 17 points for Huntingdon, and Taylor Hughes had 10.

Berry will return to action on Friday as it travels to play Sewanee.  Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. EST.
