Berry College's men's tennis team defeated Cornerstone University 5-4 Wednesday in Orlando, Fla.
The Vikings (2-3) and the Golden Eagles split the six singles matches, with Berry winning in the top three positions and Cornerstone taking the lower half. But Berry entered the singles portion of play with a 2-1 lead after its top two doubles tandems came away with victories.
Logan Yerbey and Jonathan Surls combined to defeat John Andrew and Chris Selva 8-1 in the No. 1 slot, and the team of Ben Ortman and Jake Pullen handed Josh Webb and Josiah Badger an 8-6 defeat.
Berry also picked up straight sets singles wins from Yerbey, Surls and Ortman. Yerbey defeated Andrew 6-1, 6-2; Surls beat Selva 6-3, 6-3; and Ortman defeated Alex Tarnow 6-0, 6-5.
Berry is scheduled to return to action Thursday against Ohio Northern.
