ROME, Ga. – Chanlir Segarra led Berry with 18 points and was one of four players in double figures as the Lady Vikings beat visiting Spelman 82-60 in a Saturday afternoon matchup at the Cage Center.

Berry's first six points of the game came courtesy of Brooke Thomas three-pointers, and by halftime the Lady Vikings' Brittany Coughlan and Mel McLean already hit double digits in the scoring column.

Berry head coach Stephanie Dunn said the team's first half performance still could have been better.

"We played hard, but we didn't always play smart," Dunn said. "We got a little undisciplined. I felt like we could have been up by more than 15, but the turnovers and the fouls really plagued us."

The Lady Vikings turned the ball over 11 times in the first half, which led to eight Spelman points. However, the visitors' foul shooting in the first half kept the game from being much tighter. Spelman converted only five out of 17 first half foul shots (29.4 percent).

In the second half the Lady Vikings stretched their lead and took over the rebounding advantage, 50-48, after being outrebounded in the first half, 27-23.

"One of the adjustments we made at halftime was our shot selection," Dunn said. "And then we changed up the defenses a few times on them and tried to get them off-balance offensively."

Thomas scored 15 points, Coughlan added 13, and McLean chipped in 11 to join Segarra in double figures.

Tiana Welch scored a team-high 18 points for Spelman, while Shanda Kennedy (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Jasmine Taylor (11 points, 10 rebounds) each finished with a double-double.

The Lady Vikings will return to the hardwood on Monday night when they travel across town to face Shorter at the Winthrop-King Centre at 6 p.m.
