Box Score A pair of local girls made good Saturday afternoon, as Alexa Evans and Mel McLean helped lead Berry College's women's basketball team to a 73-69 victory over Rust College in Holly Springs, Miss.
Evans, a Model High School grad, and McLean, who attended Coosa High School, led Berry with 15 points apiece in the win. They were joined in double figures by Chanlir Segarra, who scored 13 points, and Brittany Coughlan, who chipped in 11.
The Lady Vikings' Megan Walsh led Berry with five rebounds to go with her eight points.
According to Berry head coach Stephanie Dunn, the Lady Vikes held a 38-27 halftime lead, and held off a charge by Rust in the second half. Rust would gain the lead for about one minute in the final 20 minutes, but Berry quickly responded and never relinquished the lead after regaining it.
Dunn's crew used a solid effort from 3-point range to gain an advantage, hitting 11-of-22 shots from behind the arc. The Lady Vikings shot a solid 46.4 percent (26-for-56) overall in the game.
Rust was led by Al'Lisha Hudson, who scored a game high 23 points, and Jessica Brown, who recorded 17 points and nine rebounds.
Berry is scheduled to return to action Jan. 21, when it hosts Spelman at 2 p.m., at the Cage Center.
