Guilford Pulls Away To Defeat Berry 11-6

Box Score

Berry's Bryan Byers scored three goals and Jordan Boreman made 19 saves, but host Guilford College handed the Vikings an 11-6 loss in a non-conference lacrosse game in Greensboro, N.C., Saturday.

Berry trailed by a single goal at the end of the third period, as Guilford went into the fourth period wiht a 4-3 lead.

But the Quakers scored three straight goals in the first six minutes of the fourth period to take command, eventually going up 11-4 before the Vikings picked up a pair of late goals in the final two minutes.

Still, Berry head coach Chris Delfausse was impressed with his goalie, praising Boreman for his efforts in keeping the Vikings in the game for much of the contest.

"Jordan played standing on his head the whole game," Delfausse said.  "It was 4-3 at the end of the third and he was the major reason we were in the game."

Byers scored on three of the five shots he attempted.  He was joined in the scoring column by Nat Morey, who scored twice, and Cal Supik, who scored once.

Henry Farley led a Guilford offensive attack that outshot Berry 53-17 with four goals.

Many of those 53 shots came as a result of 29 Vikings turnovers.

"We turned the ball over a lot today, and that was probably the difference in the game," Delfausse said.

Berry will play the second game of a five game road swing Wednesday at Birmingham-Southern.
