Southwestern Scores Three Goals in Final Three Minutes For Win

Berry's Bryan Byers scored three goals, but Southwestern scored three times in the game's final three minutes to defeat the Vikings 10-7 Sunday in Georgetown, Texas.

After Southwestern's Tyler Downing scored the game's first goal 4:07 into the game, the Vikings reeled off four straight goals during a stretch that lasted just over 10 minutes. 

Byers scored the first two goals of the four-goal run, while Michael Emanuelo and Wes Goldsberry scored the next two.

Southwestern answered with the last two goals of the first half and the first two of the second half to regain the lead, 5-4. 

Emanuelo would tie the game with 3:29 remaining in the third period on an assist from Goldsberry, the second time in the game those two hooked up on a goal.

Southwestern then scored twice before Berry answered with a goals from Nat Morey and Byers, the latter coming with 11:03 left in the game, to again tie the score at 7-7.

That score would stand until Southwestern's Carter Cowan would tally what turned out to be the game-winning goal with 2:53 remaining.  The Pirates' Jamie Long scored with 1:45 left and Alex Mitchell added the final goal with 10 seconds on the clock.

Southwestern outshot Berry 41-27 in the game, holding a 27-13 advantage in the second half. 

Berry held a 35-32 ground ball advantage, and was successful on all 22 clearing attempts, but Southwestern won 14 of 20 faceoffs.

Berry goalie Jordan Boreman recorded 14 saves.

The Vikings will travel north to Dallas to face Concordia in a game played at the University of Dallas on Wednesday.
