Chicago Tops Berry in First Round of Crowne Plaza Christmas Invitational

Berry forward Lake Graham recorded game highs of 24 points and nine rebounds, but the University of Chicago defeated the Vikings 80-52 Saturday at the Crowne Plaza Christmas Invitational hosted by Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn.

Chicago led for all but the game's first 39 seconds.

Graham's 24 points marked a career high total for the 6-foot-8 sophomore.  He also had a pair of blocks.
 
Graham was joined in double figures by freshman guard Nasser Almulla, who scored 18 points on the strength of 5-for-13 shooting from 3-point range. 
Michael Schulte added seven points and Cody Marsh chipped in three to round out the Vikings' scoring.

Chicago's Alex Pyper came off the bench to score a team high 14 points.  He led a Maroons reserve corps that outscored Berry's bench 46-0 in the game. 

Chicago starters Michael Sustarsic and Matt Johnson scored 10 points apiece.

Berry will face Huntingdon, which lost to Rhodes 84-59 Saturday, at 2 p.m., Sunday in the tournament's consolation game.
