Wallingford Scores Twice As Berry Closes Year With 2-1 Win at Covenant

Zak Wallingford scored a pair of first-half goals to lead Berry's men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Covenant in Lookout Mountain, Ga., Saturday in the Vikings' final match of the 2011 season.

Wallingford scored his first goal after taking a pass from Daniel Wartner and shooting over Covenant goalkeeper John Eger's head less than 18 minutes into the match.

Wallingford gave the Vikings a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute when he broke away from the Scots' defense and inserted the ball into the top of the net.

That 2-0 lead held until Covenant's Todd Flemming scored in the 86th minute.

Wallingford's goals came on his only two shots of the match. Berry outshot Covenant 14-10 overall, with seven shots coming on goal.  Covenant tallied three shots on goal.

Berry goalkeeper Kevin Madigan recorded two saves.

Berry closes the season with a 7-6-2 overall record.
