Marian Defeats Lady Vikings 70-58 Saturday

Berry's Segarra, Coughlan Named to All-Classic Team

Brooke Thomas led Berry with 14 points, but Marian defeated the Lady Vikings 70-58 at the Country Hearth Inn/Famous Recipe Classic, hosted by Centre College in Danville, Ky., Saturday.

Marian led from wire-to-wire, opening a margin of as many as 28 points midway through the second half. Berry closed the game with a 26-10 run to pull to within 12 points.

Berry's defense forced Marian into 30 turnovers and held its opponent to 41.9 percent (26-for-62) shooting, but the Lady Vikes were victimized by poor shooting of their own, hitting just 26.5 percent (18-for-68) of their shots in the game.

But the major difference in the game came on the boards, where Marian dominated Berry, outrebounding the Lady Vikings 64-28 overall.  Twenty of Marian's rebounds came off the offensive glass.

Chanlir Segarra joined Thomas in double figures with 13 points, and also dished out five assists.  Brittany Coughlan added eight points and three assists.

Following the game, Segarra and Coughlan were named to the All-Classic Team.

Marian's Rachel Turk finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds, both game high totals.  Krosley Ogden added 12 points, Adrienne Sahm pitched in 10 points and Whitley Emerson finished with eight points and 13 rebounds.

Emerson and teammate Whitley Emerson joined Segarra and Coughlan on the All-Classic Team.

The Lady Vikings are scheduled to make their home debut this Tuesday night at 6 p.m., when they host Birmingham-Southern at the Cage Center.
