Stefan Woods led three Berry players in double figures with 13 points, but host Embry-Riddle defeated Berry 71-56 in the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla., Wednesday evening.
The Vikings (6-4) led by three points on a pair of occasions early in the contest and held the score close for much of the opening half, but Embry-Riddle (11-1), the fifth-ranked team in NAIA Division II, took control of the scoreboard late in the first half and held on for the remainder of the game.
David Holloman scored 12 points and Tim Miles chipped in 10 to join Woods in double figures for Berry. Woods, Holloman and Cass LeBlanc shared team-high honors in the rebounding column with five boards apiece.
Kendall Gadie, who scored four points, dished out five assists.
David Butler scored a game-high 23 points for Embry-Riddle. He also led all players with nine rebounds. Jarod Leonard came off the bench to score 12 points for the Eagles.
Berry returns to action Thursday against Union (N.Y.). Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m., after a change in the original schedule. Earlier shedules had the teams facing off at 2 p.m.
