ROME, Ga. - Berry used a 9-0 second half run to turn a one-point deficit into an eight-point lead and cruised from there as the Vikings defeated Huntingdon 74-63 Tuesday at the Cage Center.
After Berry (5-2) took a 26-25 lead into the lockerroom at halftime, Huntingdon (3-5) fought back to go ahead 34-33 early in the second half. But the Vikings' Stefan Woods answered with a 3-pointer, starting the string of nine straight Berry points that put the home team ahead for good.
The Vikings stretched their lead to as many as 18 points with just under six minutes remaining in the game, and led by double digits the rest of the way.
"I think, ultimately, I was very pleased with how our senior leaders came out in the second half," Berry head coach Jeff Haarlow said. "They were disappointed with their performance in the first half."
Woods scored 10 of his team high 15 points in the first half to lead a balanced Berry scoring attack that included four players in double figures.
"Stefan really carried the load in the first half, and then it seemed like, overall, we were better as a team in the second half," Haarlow said.
Tim Miles scored 13 points and grabbed a game high seven rebounds for the Vikings, while Kendall Gadie added 11 points and five assists, and Mike Voso scored a career high 12 points in 12 minutes on 6-for-8 shooting.
"Mike Voso and Mac Whalen (nine points, three rebounds) played well," Haarlow said. "And Jonathan Abrams gave us a lot of energy off the bench. I was very proud of our young guys tonight."
Huntingdon's Ephriam Hudson led all players with 17 points. He was joined in double figures by Adrian Williams, who scored 15 points, and Deshaun Williams, who chipped in 14.
Berry, which enjoyed a 41-33 advantage on the boards Tuesday, is scheduled to begin a four-game road trip Dec. 18 against Webster at the University of the South Invitational in Sewanee, Tenn. The Vikings return home January 6 against Piedmont.
